Prescription Drug Treatment
In response to the epidemic of prescription drug abuse across the US, our Christian drug rehab has created a specialized treatment program for those addicted to prescriptions.
Addiction does not discriminate and prescription drugs are well known as “equally opportunity destroyers” because of their cunning nature. What often starts out as prescribed use of a powerful controlled substance can end up resulting in a powerful addiction. People often begin using prescription drugs under the false presumption that because they are legal they are safe. Reports indicate that in 2010 enough prescription painkillers were prescribed to medicate every American adult around-the-clock for a month. This contributes to the problem as people have easy access to them through doctors or their friends or family member’s medicine cabinets. The popularized use of these drugs to quell pain, relax muscles, relieve anxiety or help people concentrate generally starts out as casual use and then becomes more insidious where they become dependent on them to function in their daily lives.
Medications to relieve pain like oxycodone and Lortab, those that relieve anxiety like clonazepam and Xanax, or to help people concentrate like Adderall or Ritalin are all addictive. Over time the person using these may need more to function at the same level and will experience withdrawal symptoms when they try to stop. No one ever intends to become addicted, but consistent use can easily result in addiction.
The story usually goes people using these medications begin to request more by claiming that their pain or anxiety is getting worse. Or those that have tried prescription drugs at a party or from a friend like the feeling and begin to manufacture pain or anxiety to get prescriptions from their own doctors. When they run out, many partake in doctor shopping and end up with a supply that they consume themselves or sell to others – contributing more to the epidemic. If you resonate with these stories and are faced with prescription drug addiction, you are not alone. The popularization of addiction to prescription drugs has made getting help at an addiction treatment center more common, as there has been a 500% increase in those seeking drug rehab programs between 1997 and 2007. There is no reason to be ashamed of your addiction and you are certainly not alone in your need for addiction treatment.
Help Can’t Wait
At our Christian drug rehab we treat addiction to prescriptions beginning with detoxification, followed by evidence based treatment protocols. This includes the use of buprenorphine, naltrexone, and acamprosate in detox (if appropriate) followed by individual and group counseling, workshops, spiritual guidance, 12 step recovery meetings and Celebrate Recovery® meetings among a multitude of specialized services like recreational outings and a family program.
Getting help for your prescription addition is essential, because accidental overdoses are also on the rise. According to the Center for Disease Control, prescription pill abuse kills one person in the US every 19 minutes and more than 15,000 people a year, which is greater than deaths from heroin and cocaine combined. Through our specialized addiction treatment programs, therapy and support groups, those addicted to prescription drugs have a real chance at sustaining lifelong sobriety – and escaping these fatal statistics.
